Mitchell County Mourns the Loss of Deputy Chris McClintick

Christian “Chris” McClintick

BAKERSVILLE, N.C. — Yesterday was a day filled with tragedy for Mitchell County citizens, law enforcement, and the family of Deputy Chris McClintick.

Chris McClintick

It was a sad day for the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office and the family of Deputy Christian “Chris” McClintick.

Law enforcement officers responded a report of a possible suicidal person who was inside the city limits of Spruce Pine.
Upon arrival, officers found one of their own officers holding a gun to his chest. Officers attempted to try and talk to him and persuade him to change his mind. Unfortunately, he died a short time later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Please remember the family of Chris McClintick and the family of law enforcement officers of Mitchell County.

Law enforcement officers do not go into the profession with the expectation of becoming rich. The career is a dream to many and those who do become officers have dedicated themselves to the profession.

In lieu of flowers, the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office has set up a special fund at the county finance office, located at 63 Crimson Laurel Circle Suite 8, Bakersville, North Carolina, to pay for his funeral expenses along with any additional funds over going to his children.

We cannot express the sadness we feel over the loss of Chris. He was an example of law enforcements finest. His love for his job was surpassed only for the love of his family. Mitchell County has lost a terrific officer and we have lost his friendship. May his family feel God’s love at this sad time and turn to the Lord for guidance. We send deepest sympathy to his mother, Van, Ava, and Fin.

  3. No one knows what another goes threw in this life that would make them want to take their own life unless they to have walked in their shoes, I pray no one ever does. My prayers go out to his family and friends. Life can sometimes be more then one can cope with, don’t judge what you don’t understand. Just be there for those he left behind !

  4. Praying for his family…I can’t say anything that will make it ok but with Jesus beside you all you can find strength and peace to make it through. Such a tragedy and great loss.

  5. Has anyone thought of setting up a go fund me account, or something similar? It would help for those wishing to donate who may not be in immediate area. Just a thought, my prayers are with the family. I know all to well what they are going through.

  6. What an awful tragedy ! Chris was such a good guy. I always enjoyed talking to him when he came in the store ! I appreciate all the hard work he did keeping Mitchell County safe ! You will be missed my friend !

  7. Hands down The best officer we had, this man wasnt just out to bust you or lock you up, he would listen to you, and help you in anyway if possible, he helped me out on more then one occasion, he picked me up one night over some bogus charges he asked what happend i told him myside and he agreed it was bogus, he tried and tried to get the magistrate to let me sign my own bond but it was out of his hands, so on the way to mcdowell he stopped at my house let me get extra clothes to take an let me see my family before I went for atleast 45 mins once in marion he asked me if i had eaten dinner yet, when i said I hadn’t he pulled thru Wendy’s bought me a full meal an one himself and we sat in the parking lot an ate then unfortunatly he took me on to jail, that really meant a whole lot to me!! It changed my perspective and outlook on all law enforcement in general…he really loved his job an loved helping people more i had the upmost respect for chris its so hard to belive this happend.. he was always just seemed so happy an up beat an down to earth was a cool guy to just have a conversation with… praying for his family and especially his little girl I couldn’t imagine what they’re going thru an would never want my daughter to go through it….a big loss for this community. Rest in peace my friend !!
