BAKERSVILLE, N.C. – A Newdale woman is jailed after escaping law enforcement custody while being served arrest warrants.
On May 24, 2017 around 5 pm, April Buchanan, age 43, turned herself in at the Mitchell County Courthouse for outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a misdemeanor. The magistrate set her a $3,000.00 secure bond.
She then snuck out the back door of the courthouse and left.
An all-point-bulletin was put out for Mitchell and surrounding counties to be on the lookout for her. Deputies with the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office located her and she was immediately taken into custody and turned over to Mitchell County Deputies. She admitted to Yancey Deputies that “she messed up.”
She was charged with Resisting, Delaying, or Obstructing a Public Officer and given a $1,000 secure bond.
She is being held in jail under a $4,000.00 secure bond and is expected to appear in Mitchell County District Court on May 31, 2017.
Deputy W. Hobson of the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office was the charging officer.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
