Felon Arrested After Participating in Turkey Shoot

Richard Burleson was arrested for Possession of Firearm by Felon.

BULADEAN, N. C. — One person was arrested after unlawfully participating in a community turkey shoot.

Richard Wayne Burleson, age 58, of 265 Perkins Way, Bakersville, N.C.

Lt. Detective Cecil Hobson of the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office was attending a turkey shoot that was being held in the Buladean community on Saturday, February 18, 2017 when he observed a possible convicted felon participating in the event and even observed the person shoot a gun. Lt. Detective Hobson confronted the person that day and charges were filed the following Monday.

Richard Wayne Burleson, age 58, of 265 Perkins Way, Bakersville, N.C. was arrested on February 20, 2017 and charged with Felony Possession of Firearm by Felon. He was released in lieu of posting a $15,000.00 secure bond and is schedule to appear in Mitchell County District Court on March 29, 2017.

Lt. Detective C. Hobson of the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office was the charging officer.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
